TN corrections officer behind bars for rape charges
MEMPHIS. (AP) - A Tennessee corrections officer finds himself behind bars after being charged with raping a female inmate in 2009.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that 38-year-old Darrell Jones of Bartlett was charged Saturday following an internal affairs investigation by the Tennessee Department of Correction.
An inmate at the Mark Luttrell Correctional Complex provided a statement in December that Jones raped her on Oct. 16, 2009.
According to an affidavit, she also gave investigators the underpants she was wearing when the alleged attack took place.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a lab report found DNA matching Jones on the garment.
Jones was being held on $35,000 bail in the Shelby County Jail.
His video arraignment is set for Monday. Jail records did not list an attorney.
