CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Another national publication is singing Chattanooga's praises. The July/August issue of "Where to Retire" names the Scenic City as a Top 10 retirement location in the country, and the only city in Tennessee or Georgia to make the list.
Where to Retire editor Mary Lu Abbott said, "Four-season destinations have gained in popularity for retirement."
"Retirees who've relocated to sunny climes that are warm year-round often find they miss the change of seasons. They seek a new locale where they can savor the beauty of winter, spring, summer and fall, frequently in an area with a moderate climate.
The locales featured in this issue are Portland, ME; Sussex County, DE; Asheville, NC; Chattanooga, TN; Greenville, SC; Greeley, CO; Reno, NV; Boise, ID; Spokane, WA; and Kalispell, MT.
The magazine describes Chattanooga: A dynamic riverfront is the gathering place in Chattanooga, TN, which mixes city amenities with mountains and lakes for outdoor fun and long has been an economical choice for retirement.
According to the article, 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire each year. Generally, relocating retirees are healthier, better educated and more affluent than retirees who choose to not relocate; they bring significant economic benefits to their new states and hometowns. Nationally, two dozen states and hundreds of towns seek to attract retirees as a source of economic development.
