Marion Co HS Holds Graduation Despite Tragedy

Posted: Updated:

MARION COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- The senior class of 2010 at Marion County High School celebrates another milestone in their lives.

More than 100 students graduated as family and supporters watched from the stands.

Students say the tragedy of losing two classmates, still weighs heavy through this joyous occasion.

Adam and Andrew Hughes died this week after a car crash on Highway 41.

Neither was wearing seat belts.

Many graduates were seen wearing purple pins on their robes in honor of the Hughes brothers.

Principal Sherry Prince says after learning of the boys death she moved the graduation to Friday to give the family time to mourn.

She urged the graduates to take charge of their future, but also, to buckle up.

As students crossed the stage with diploma in hand some say the tragedy of losing Adam and Andrew has brought them closer together.

The community is putting on a benefit for the Hughes family that will be held Saturday at 5PM CST at the town square.

Another Benefit will be held at the Anchor Inn at 6PM CST.
