Littlefield pushes tax increase in community

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Mayor Ron Littlefield will make stops all over the city to explain the need for a property tax increase.

His first stop was at the Chattanooga Association of Realtors Thursday morning.

When Mayor Littlefield made his proposal to the City Council this week, it included a 33% increase on property taxes.

He told Eyewitness News Thursday, he knew it was likely the proposal wouldn't be popular.

"I gave the council what I believe to be a very responsible budget to achieve what they're hearing and I'm hearing the community wants," says Mayor Littlefield. "Everybody wants the services. The costs, the taxes, are never popular."

Mayor Littlefield says it's now up to the council to decide what to do. They'll make a decision on the budget by June 30th.
