TENNESSEE VALLEY (WRCB) -- A babysitter is charged with cruelty to children after a cell-phone mix up records what sounds like a screaming fit.

Sandie Courtney says her babysitter left a voicemail on her phone by accident.  She says she can hear her four year old son crying on the message.   It was then that she wondered if the story that  bruises on her 2 year old daughter's face did indeed come from a fall.  Like the babysitter, Malori Patton, told her.

Sandie Courtney says, "It breaks my heart is what it does, I trusted her."  Courtney left work and drove to pick up her children then immediately reported Patton to police.  Police have charged 23 year old Patton with cruelty to children.  Investigators say she admitted to hitting 2 year old Chloe with a shoe.

Courtney says she wants to encourage other mothers to pay for a background check before trusting a babysitter.   A check would've shown Patton had a 2004 charge of cruelty to children in her past.
