TRACY CITY, TN (WRCB)- The newly selected leader of Grundy Schools says he's "ready for action." 

By a vote of 6-3, Grundy County School Board members chose Clay Newsome as their next Director of Schools.  Newsome is currently a teacher at Grundy County High.

Newsome will succeed Joel (Jody) Hargis who is leaving the post after four years.  Newsome is a 1991 graduate of Grundy County High School.  He is a graduate of Freed-Hardeman University with a B.S. in math.  He has a Master's degree in Instructional Leadership and Education Administration from Tennessee Tech.   He will complete the final two courses of his Ed.S. in Instructional Leadership and Education Administration this summer, and is scheduled to graduate in July.  

The new Director has nine years teaching experience in Marion, Sequatchie, Hamilton, and Grundy Counties. He worked for CSX Railroad for three years and is a graduate of AMDG's conductor school (for the railroad) and CSX's management trainee program.

Newsome's father is was principal at Grundy County High School before retiring in 1998.  His mother retired from teaching in Grundy and Marion Counties in 2006.  

Board member James Conry said, "Clay has a lot of enthusiasm, he's young, and he seems to have a real plan for the school system."

Newsome told Eyewitness News, "I think we have the best people in the world, and a school system that can't be beat!"  He will begin serving as Director in July.
