Çhattanooga homicide detectives are hoping you've seen or heard something that can help them track down a killer.
Michael Johnson was only 20 years old. Detectives say he was minding his own business, just hanging out with a friend when he was murdered by a drive by shooter.
Investigator Michael Wenger says, "All we know now is 2 men were shooting took a life early. He was only 20 years old."
Johnson's life was taken as he sat on a friend's front porch on East 27th Street. His friend Clay Holiday was with him. Holiday didn't want to talk to us on camera, but he did say that he saw the car came from 4th Avenue. It was about 1 am April 29th.
Inv. Wenger says, "One of the guys noticed the car didn't slow down and made the turn then he stood up."
Holiday says he came back outside to find Johnson had been shot. He told investigators three black males were inside the car, maybe more.
Inv. Wenger says, "As they approached the shot from the rear side of the vehicle."
Neighbors didn't want to talk to us about what happened that night. Most say they saw nothing but only heard shots. Police can't pinpoint a motive, but we asked if Johnson was associated with gangs.
Inv. Wenger says, "He's been validated as gang member but we don't know it's gang related."
Police are looking for a dark green sedan with tinted windows. Maybe a Dodge Stratus or a Plymouth Breeze. If you've seen it pick up the phone.
Inv. Wenger adds, "We all know the right thing to do is to help police and give the information we need to protect the City of Chattanooga."
