Chattanooga, TN (WRCB) -- A crowd gathered to hear more budget talks from Hamilton County School Superintendent Dr. Jim Scales.

The finance department revealed the true deficit figures during it's presentation.

Right now the school is facing nearly a nearly $10 million shortfall.

With that, close to 50 teaching jobs are on the fence, but Scales says the cutbacks won't affect the classroom.

The school system stands to lose $14.5f million in federal funding.

Most of that one-time stimulus money from the Obama administration.

With the inclusion of Volkswagen the school board does expect student enrollment to increase by some 3,000 students.

The hope is as more families move in to the area tax revenues will increase and fill the budget gaps.

Right now scales is proposing to use reserve funds to help schools replace outdated technology, another lagging problem.

A bad idea to Board member Rhonda Thurman

April 29th the board will finalize the budget then hold a special called meeting May 6th.

The final presentation will be May 29th.
