FANNIN COUNTY, GA -- A Naval aircraft based in Pensacola, FL crashed late Monday afternoon in a field east of Blue Ridge in Fannin County.

The aircraft was a US Navy T-39 Sabreliner, and it went down after hitting a home and landing in a field.

FAA officials said the pilot and two others were confirmed dead in the crash. Police are searching for a fourth person said to be on the plane. They said the plane was based out of the Pensacola Naval Air Station, and that the airplane was used for training purposes by the Navy.

According to officials, the plane caused a fire in the woods in the area where it crashed. A Georgia Forestry helicopter was called in to keep the fire contained.

A 2006 crash of a T-39 in Walker County, not far from the location of this crash, claimed the lives of four people.
