Improvements Approved for Legion Field

Posted: Updated:

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham's city council has approved setting aside $400,000 for improvements at Legion Field, including the cost of buying and moving the University of Alabama's football scoreboard.

The council voted on Tuesday to buy the scoreboard from the university for $30,000 and will vote later on other costs associated with the project.

The Crimson Tide is replacing the scoreboard as part of its $80 million expansion of Bryant-Denny Stadium. City officials expect to remove the scoreboard from the stadium later this month, after Alabama's A-Day game.

Mayor William Bell said he recently met with officials from the Bowl, the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the Magic City Classic to discuss ways to enhance activities at Legion Field.
