CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - School administrators at Howard High School found a loaded handgun after breaking up a fight Wednesday afternoon in Chattanooga.

The fight began toward the end of the school day. According to a news release emailed to Channel 3 Eyewitness News, the principal and assistant principal intervened and stopped the fight with the assistance of the School Resource Officer.

The students were taken to the office. While in the office, the book bag of one the students was checked. Inside they found a loaded .38 revolver. When officials ran the serial number to determine who owns the gun, they determined it had been reported stolen.

One of the students is charged with disorderly conduct. The other student faces the same charge in addition to carrying a weapon on school property and possessing stolen property charges. He was transported to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center.
