Towing Fee Cap Inches Closer

Posted: Updated:

Chattanooga, TN (WRCB) -- Stacey Wallace says he was a bit shocked to find his car missing after leaving the Chili's restaurant on Brainerd Road Saturday night.

It wasn't stolen, it had been towed. He parked in Ichiban restaurant's parking lot after they closed.

He says what was worse was the $250 bill from S&H Towing.

This is why he is in favor of the city placing a cap on towing fees. Wrecker Board members first planned to cap the fees between $75 and $85 dollars, but Channel 3 has learned the proposed cap is being raised to $125.

Les Cantrell of S&H says this still wont be enough to take care of his expenses.

He charges as much as $250 for towing, and provides services for most the Eastgate Town Center area.

He says before his company took over, noise complaints and parking lot parties had been a problem.

He says lower fees may bring this problem back.

City officials say they will vote on the fee cap once a final draft is proposed.
