ATLANTA (WRCB) -- Georgia state senators are in unanimous support of a proposal to create a state-wide alert system to catch criminals who kill or seriously injury law enforcement officers in Georgia.

The "Blue Alert" bill passed the Senate 48-0 on Tuesday. Similar to the Amber Alert law, the legislation would activate Georgia Department of Transportation message boards and other state messaging systems to notify the public when an officer has been killed or seriously injured and the perpetrator remains at large.

Sen. Jeff Mullis of Chickamauga introduced Senate Bill 397 on behalf of the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police.
