TVA Announces Layoffs on Watts Bar 2

TENNESSEE VALLEY (WRCB) -- Times are difficult enough, without losing your job. And, today hundreds of workers at TVA's Watts Bar Dam in Spring City learned they would soon join thousands of unemployed workers.

Two-hundred-seventy-two who have been working with Bechtel Power Corporation on the latest project at Watts Bar Dam are starting to be notified of the cuts.

TVA officials tell us many of the employees are part of the engineering and design of Watts Bar two.

The second unit at Watts Bar.

TVA hopes by completing this project they will add more electricity to TVA's power system.

The employees affected are part of the engineering and designing of Watts Bar two.

2 thousand workers are currently working on the project which includes construction crews, pipe fitters and welders.

To date 2 and half million man hours have been spent on the project.

The layoff's will take place now through September 1st.

Knoxville is also effected by these layoffs 343 workers lost their jobs with TVA.
