Update: Lock Down at Two Hamilton County Schools
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Hamilton County authorities have released the picture of the loaded BB gun they say was confiscated from a student's backpack Wednesday.
They say a 13 year old had the gun.
The students charged with drug possession are ages twelve, thirteen and fourteen years old. All of the students were in the eighth grade.
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Authorities confirm that two Hamilton County schools were placed on lock down Wednesday.
Chattanooga Police spokeswomen Rebecca Royval says Dalewood Middle School was on lock down on reports of a possible gun on campus. Officers along with Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies searched the school. Royval says they found the following:
- 12 year old student in possession of an air soft pellet gun. This student will be cited by the HCSO and was released into the custody of his mother.
- 11 year old student in possession of marijuana who was cited by Chattanooga Police and released to his parent.
- 14 year old student with four stolen credit cards. This student was transported to Juvenile Detention Center by Chattanooga Police and charged with Theft Under $500.
Royval said by noon Dalewood Middle was no longer on lock down at this time.
In the separate incident at Orchard Knob Middle School, police say the school was locked down at 9:45am after a reports of a gun there. Officers searched and found a loaded BB gun in a backpack that resembled a pistol. That weapon was confiscated and a student charged with carrying a weapon on school property.
According to Janice Atkinson with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department, another report of another gun came in. Officers again searched but did not find a weapon this time. Instead they discovered some marijuana. Four students are now charged with drug possession. Atkinson says the school was taken off lock down at 11:45am.
