CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Police arrested two men for a string of auto burglaries at fitness centers in the Chattanooga area.

Officers arrested Robert Keith Smith and James Hanks on 29 charges from auto burglaries that happened at the RUSH Fitness Centers, Sports Barn Fitness Complex in Hixson and the East Brainerd YMCA.  The burglaries mostly targeted cars with women's purses and other bags visible in the vehicle.  The suspects would allegedly take credit cards from the burglaries and quickly use them at convenience stores to buy gas, cigarettes and milk. Property Crimes Investigators with Chattanooga Police linked a suspect vehicle to several of the burglaries.

Patrol officers spotted the pickup on the lot of the East Brainerd YMCA. The arrest of Smith and Hanks came as they were casing the parking lot of the YMCA.  Investigators have five other cases believed to be linked to the pair that will be presented to the grand jury at a later date.
