NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nashville police say a deer bolted onto a highway and crashed through the windshield of a car, killing an 8-year-old girl.

The accident Wednesday night occurred on a road that borders a large park on the city's west side.

Police identify the dead child as Emmie Webb, who was sitting in the rear seat of her family's car.

Her father, 47-year-old David Webb of Nashville, who was driving the sedan, was seriously injured.

Emmie's 10- and 13-year-old sisters and her 11-year-old brother had minor injuries.

The family was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said Emmie died at the scene when the deer's body struck her in the head.

Investigators said the sole cause of the crash was the deer running in front of the car.
