Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-If you're in need of new appliances, now may be the time to buy.

The government's doing for your home, what 'cash for clunkers' did for your car. The government is now offering Rebates for energy efficient washers, Dryers, Air conditioners and more.

The federal government's offering 300 million dollars in rebates when you buy new, energy-efficient appliances. Some of those programs start this month. Tennessee's mail-in rebate is scheduled to begin next month. Georgia's program began this month.

Rebates have already started in 13 states - the rest start this spring. It was so popular in Kansas... They've already run out money. Kansas offered up to 800 dollars for a new washer.

If you're eyeing a rebate, here's the trick: every state's rules are different. In some areas, only low-income customers get rebates. In others, only certain appliances qualify. So read the fine print before you shop.

Some stores are offering extra incentives on top of the rebate... And some states are offering extra rebates if you recycle your old appliance.

Eligible products, in Tennessee, include certain types of air conditioners and air source heat pumps. There are several eligible products in Georgia, including refrigerators, clothes washers, and dishwashers.
