City Council Looks to Revitalize Brainerd Community

Chattanooga, TN (WRCB) -- Many members in the Brainerd community want the city to take a hands on approach to rejuvenating the area.

Old storefronts, battered streets, and crime have given the area a bad rep.

In response, the city opened the District Connections office in the Brainerd Village.

It will be an outlet for ideas and future endevours between the community and district leaders.

District 6 official, Carol Berz was plagued by constant complaints of places like Club Deep Blue.

Before a court ordered shut down in August, police and residents said the night club was a breeding ground for crime.

District 5 Representitive, Russell Gilbert, said that area is just the start.

"It is all about Chattanooga. It is what we can do as elected officials to help the city."

The group's first goal is to get out and meet the people.

Saturday they started taking donations to help the less fortunate.

Some say the issue is not enough people are getting involved.

Now the group has future plans like replacing the old public library as well as building a community park.

Berz said it'll take a collective effort from residents to shape the area's future.

For more information visit the District Connections office at the Brainerd Village Shopping Center located at 5896 Brainerd Road.
