CARROLLTON, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman says authorities are still working to identify a body believed to be a missing University of West Georgia student. Authorities say investigators are hoping to use dental records to show that the body is 21-year-old Marcelle Elliott of Kennesaw, who went missing last week.
ATLANTA (AP) - Gov. Sonny Perdue will greet President Barack Obama planeside when the Democrat arrives in Georgia on Monday. Obama will be in Atlanta to address a convention of disabled American veterans and to headline a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.
ATLANTA (AP) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is coming to Georgia to stump for Republican Karen Handel in her governor's race runoff bid. Palin will appear at a rally with Handel August 9th, the day before the August 10th runoff.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The South is roasting under temperatures and humidity that make beaches feel more like a bakehouse, and heat advisories were posted from the Atlantic to the Great Plains. Forecasts for today's highs were mainly in the upper 90s to 100. The heat index, which adds humidity and temperature to measure how it feels, was well over 100 degrees from South Carolina to eastern Oklahoma.
