Tina Loher
Dr. Terrance Loher
Friday 6pm
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - On crutches and obviously in pain, our camera was the only one rolling as Dr. Terry Loher returned to his clinic where he took a bullet just one week ago.
The police officers, the medics did an amazing job," says Loher fighting back tears, "without them I wouldn't be here."
Nine months pregnant, his wife Gladys stood by his side during our interview. Dr. Loher says it's his growing family that makes it so important for the clinic, his sole income, to survive.
"We have our ups and downs," says Loher reflecting on the last week, "we are just trying to hang in there ... we have a baby on the way."
We asked Loher about the order of protection filed by his ex-wife back in 2002 and the motion filed this week that claims Loher's 8 year-old stepson is quote "scared to death" of him. Both documents are part of the custody battle that precedes last week's shooting.
"Mostly the stuff we are seeing in the news is allegations and not really true," says Loher, "but we want to hold off on any comments on that kind of stuff until the right time."
His wife defended the doctor.
"He's a great man, some people have been trying to portray him as something totally different," says Gladys Pineda-Loher, "he's a lovable man and my kids could not be in a better environment."
Unwilling to discuss the investigation, the couple continued to thank the community for support during a very difficult week.
"We are just so thankful," says Loher, "we just really need the community's support."
The Signal Mountain Chiropractic Clinic is now open to patients. Chiropractors from the community will be filling in until Loher is ready to return to work.
