CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Music experts say Robert Henry Brown was going to be a star, but the Chattanooga native's rise to fame was silenced when he was killed during a home robbery.

It happened Saturday night just off Highway 58. Police say Brown was bound with duct tape and shot several times.  Another shooting victim is still in critical condition at Erlanger.

The local hip hop community is devastated. After years of hard work, Brown was on the verge of stardom. He had just a signed a deal with Universal Music Group. Now he's remembered best for what helped get him to the top.

"Got a chance to hear his music. That's where I know him from. He came into the radio station and brought his music and we listened to it, and we thought the music was really good," said Keith Landecker, with WJTT Power 94.

Power 94's Program Director has heard tons of artists come and go and just hearing the music of rap duo Pinney Woods he knew Brown, who went by the name "Brikk," and his partner had what it took.

"These guys were on their way. From what I understand, they had just signed a deal with Universal Records, and they were out in Los Angeles doing what you would do to try and get into the industry," said Landecker.

But Brown's career came to an abrupt halt Saturday night. Police say he was shot and killed during a robbery at a Webb Oaks Court home.

"It's a shame something like this had to happen, because every area wants to have their success stories from Usher to the Impressions to people who have really made it out of this community and the music industry. So these guys were trying to be a part of that I guess," said Landecker.

Jamichael Jones is part of Inferno Productions. He's trying to move forward in the hip hop business, but is worried after hearing about Brown's murder.

"Everybody in Chattanooga, we try to do something. We're trying to share and trying to get everybody to bond and stuff instead of hate, so if you hate, just calm it down man," said Jones.

And while he didn't know Brown personally, he did know his music.

"His music was real good. He deserved to get signed or whatever they was doing right then, but it's just a shame how he got took out so early like that," said Jones.

We're told Pinney Woods had performed with several well-known hip-hop groups including Outkast. Dexter Talley was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder.

Tuesday, March 31:

Police arrested 28-year-old Dexter Talley for the weekend robbery murder of a rap star.

They say 33-year-old Robert Henry Brown VI was fatally shot by Talley Saturday at 3929 Webb Oaks Courts. Brown, who was known as "Brikk" in the rap group Pinney Woods, died at the scene. Brown was a former student at Howard High in Chattanooga.

Injured in the shooting was 44-year-old Josquin Jackson from Richmond, California. He's listed in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.

Talley is now charged with:

  •   Felony Murder
  •   Especially Aggravated Robbery
  •   Attempted First-degree Murder
  •   Aggravated Assault

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Police continue to investigate the robbery turned homicide off of Highway 58 that left a man in critical condition.

A large part of this investigation is the other victim, who is still alive. Police are hoping he can give them more information on what really happened inside the home. Until he recovers, police are relying on witnesses and the neighborhood for help.

A neighborhood stays quiet after one of their own is shot to death. Police say it's being investigated as a robbery.

"At this point, from what we've gathered, it's a robbery. We're not saying it's a home invasion until we talk to some more people. We're not going to determine home invasion or if they knew the suspects," said Lt. Kim Noorbergen, with the Chattanooga Police.

Eyewitness News went looking for answers where the shootings happened, but no one in the neighborhood wanted to speak with us.

"We've never had any problems up there. You know checking the history of that area there. We don't have that many calls just a few disturbance here and there, so to us, you know, that was a good neighborhood," said Noorbergen.

Saturday night police were called to the home only to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Police so far are not releasing their names. One of the victims, who police say was shot in the chest, died at the home that night. The second victim was taken to Erlanger in critical condition. Later, he told police it was a robbery gone bad.

"The three to four black male suspects came in as they were robbing them and apparently something happened and one of the suspects shot the first victim, the one that is deceased," said Noorbergen.

Police tell us there have already been four home invasions this year, but are still not calling this recent homicide one until they gather more facts. They are continuing to explore leads, including what the victims where doing leading up to the shooting.

Original Story, Sunday Morning:

Chattanooga Police say one man is dead and another is in critical condition a possible home invasion late Saturday night.

Police say when the arrived at the Webb Oaks address they found a deceased, black male lying in the living room suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. A witness told officers they heard several gunshots.

A second victim had been transported to Erlanger in a private vehicle. According to police, the victim stated it was a robbery that had gone bad.

Major Crimes Investigators are investigating. There is no other information at this time.
