Just about every weekend for the past decade, a small group of engineers and retired air force officers have gathered to rebuild a piece of flying history.
An A-26 Invader was built in Tulsa toward the end of World War II. It saw action in Korea and Vietnam with the French Air Force.
It passed through several parties until the Sierra Hotel Group of the commemorative air force bought the pieces in 1999.
Jim Dinelli and son are working on the nose at this point.
"We're basically just bringing the aircraft up to air worthy standards and it's going to be something," said Jim Dinelli.
Bill Hayward put more than two miles of wiring into the A-26.
Tom Parsons has also put in many hours in this hangar, and in two more at Wiley Post airport.
"I was thrilled to death to have the opportunity to be involved with this, and my enthusiasm has not wavered at all," said Parsons.
The Invader is getting pretty close to looking like the other Invader at Wiley post.
There's just one problem.
There aren't any hangers left at this field.
The last Invader left built in Oklahoma has a few last tests and some assembly left before she can fly again.
Another piece of Oklahoma flying history will be back in the skies where she was meant to be.
