Georgia Lawmakers Take First Step in Toughening Law

Posted: Updated:

Georgia lawmakers are taking the first step in toughening laws for peanut production plants in the state.

Wednesday, the Georgia Senate passed a bill to require peanut product manufacturers to report any contamination within 24 hours.

Failure to do so will result in felony charges.

This comes after a massive salmonella outbreak, linked to a peanut butter company in south Georgia.
