CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Your garage door could be hiding a gold mine. A new Web site is helping people cash in on loaning out their unused items to their neighbors.
Zilok serves as an online bulletin board. People create profiles of what they have for rent. Others browse the site for things they need. The parties negotiate on a price and make the exchange.
Customers and promoters say it's a good way to save and make money.
"Because it means if you rent your thing six times, you will have made more money than if you would have sold it," said Jeff Boudier, Zilok.
The Web site gets a cut of the transaction, and there is a deposit involved to cover things that get stolen or broken.
So, what's renting the most?
S-L-R digital cameras, the Nintendo Wii and strollers are hot items. Also on the list are designer dresses and purses.
