Some Wisconsin bus drivers found an effective and productive way to keep kids under control on the "ol' cheese wagon."
In Eu Claire, Wisconsin, driver Tami Harvey saw an increase in kids riding the bus this year, which meant it was harder to control them all.
So she took a different route, and the bus rides went from chaos to calm.
Harvey paired older elementary kids with younger ones and passed out books.
The older kids read to the younger ones -- with fantastic results.
Tami told us, "This is a win-win situation for all of us: the kids get somebody to read to them, and the other kids get the practice!"
She added, "The biggest issue was 'I need another book!'"
Besides the peace and quiet, a new generation is discovering the magic of a good book.
Harvey says this program is still in its infancy but she hopes the idea will spread.
