Manufacturers Fight Proposed Water Rate Hike

Posted: Updated:

Manufacturers are fighting tooth and nail to keep Tennessee-American Water Company from getting a rate hike.

Company representatives are testifying before the regulatory committee that's hearing Tennessee-American's pitch for a rate that would add up to a 20 point 5-8 percent increase.

That hike would cost R.L. Stowe Mills an extra 100 thousand dollars a year. The yarn dying company uses 1 million gallons of water a day.

Division President Jack Callaghan says, "Since 2003 the water company has had 23 percent increase, now they're asking for 21 percent increase, that's outrageous."

Callaghan says he heard about the another proposed hike, this time T-V-A is talking about energy costs.   Callaghan says that would be gut wrenching, a double whammy for manufacturers.
