CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
With temperature at or below freezing Saturday night/Sunday morning, the Chattanooga Salvation Army will open their doors at their overnight emergency shelter for the homeless on Saturday, November 1, at 6:00 PM.
The ReCreate Café, The Salvation Army's Day Center located at 800 McCallie Avenue is preparing to serve throughout the night this weekend.
The Salvation Army is asking the community to donate blankets, travel-size toiletry items, and coats.
"Our goal is to keep people safe and protected from below freezing temperatures," said Captian Aaron Goldfarb, 614 Corps Officer. "We are down to our last few blankets and need assistance from our neighbors," Goldfarb said in a news release.
Monetary donations are also welcomed to help those experiencing high utility bills from having to keep temperatures warmer in their homes.
Donations of coats, blankets, or money are being accepted at The Salvation Army, 822 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37403. Monetary donations can also be made on line by visiting csarmy.org or by calling 1-800-Sal-Army.
