MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange says Elmore County Coroner Timothy Ellison and a funeral home director have been convicted of theft and ethics violations. Strange says Ellison pleaded guilty to theft and using his position for personal gain. Hillside Mortuary director Yancey Joe Mitchell III pleaded guilty to related charges.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama has joined a lawsuit to block California from imposing its own agricultural standards on out-of-state producers. State Attorney General Luther Strange says Alabama is looking to prevent California from requiring that only eggs from chickens housed in large, roomy cages be sold in the state.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama House of Representatives has approved legislation to keep the manufacturers and suppliers of lethal injection drugs confidential. It would prevent the state from having to disclose the names of drug providers during litigation over the death penalty. Representatives voted 77-19 for the bill today. It now moves to the Senate.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama State University students and supporters rallied in the rain outside the Statehouse to make sure a big budget cut is restored to their university. The education budget passed by the state Senate for the upcoming school year would cut ASU by more than $10 million.
