MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Montgomery city officials are planning to recognize three teens who called for help after finding an abandoned baby in front of a church. They were on their way to a gymnasium on Aug. 7 when they heard the baby crying. City Councilman Davis Burkette says he's proud of the boys' quick thinking.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Two people have died in a helicopter crash in Tuscaloosa County. The FAA says today's accident involves a McDonnell Douglas 369E helicopter. Two people were on board. Authorities haven't released any names or said who owns the helicopter.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Organizers of regular protests at the North Carolina Legislature are being joined by NAACP leaders in other states including Alabama in starting a week of demonstrations. About 900 people were arrested at statehouse protests during the 2013 legislative session in North Carolina.

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) - The family of a Muscle Shoals high school student who was sent home because of her hair color says the district could face a Civil Rights Act lawsuit if its policy isn't revised. School board attorney Taylor Brooks says case law supports districts' ability to stipulate hairstyles in school dress codes.
