NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Davidson County woman who says she used to hate offenders is now working to rehabilitate them. Verna Wyatt has been a victim's advocate for more than two decades. She says over time her focus began to shift toward preventing crime.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Clarksville woman convicted of assault for pouring hot oatmeal on her husband to diversion. Judge John H. Gasaway handed down the sentence for 52-year-old Karen Jeffries. During the trial in March, Jeffries said she threw hot oatmeal at her husband when he lunged to attack her.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A group in Murfreesboro has started a petition to end the use of red-light cameras, but police say the traffic enforcement measure has improved safety. Middle Tennessee State University student Axl David, who heads Citizens Against Photo Enforcement, says he plans to submit the petition to City Council after 1,000 people have signed it.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Civil War landmark in East Tennessee will soon become a low-impact park that allows public access and preserves the area's historical integrity. High Ground Park is being created at the site of Fort Higley in south Knoxville, which was manned by Union soldiers during the Siege of Knoxville in 1863.
