CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Officials are still investigating a house fire on Ely Road that occurred Tuesday morning.

After firefighters had put out the fire, they discovered a body inside the house.

It has been identified as 54 year old James Curtis Peardon.

The Hamilton County Medical Examiner's office reports that Peardon died from smoke inhalation.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death, as well as the cause of the fire, remains under investigation.

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fatal fire on Ely Road.

Chattanooga FD says a body was discovered while battling a fire at the 1300 block of Ely Road.

Police Detectives are also aiding in the investigation, a standard procedure in any fatal fire.

Investigators say the body will be transported to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's office to determine the identity of the victim and the cause of death.

Ely Road was one of the areas in Hamilton County affected by Wednesday's tornadoes.
