CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)- Dozens of Hamilton County middle and high schoolers are the proud owners of brand new neckties, and they learned how to tie them, thanks to a group of local business and political leaders.
"Tie Day" was held at the Boys & Girls Club of Highland Park on Thursday. The event was created by Sessions Court Judge Bob Moon, himself a former Boys Club member. He had witnessed young men in his courtroom that were void of appropriate attire. He decided to organize an effort to insure young men knew how to tie a necktie. Girls are now included, since many of them wear a tie as part of their school uniform.
Club president Michael Cranford praised Judge Moon, a longtime friend, for his interest in helping children succeed. Judge Moon spoke to the audience, describing the sad cases he sees in his courtroom each day, encouraging them to stay in school. He described tieing a necktie as a "milestone in a young person's life." Among those attending, contributing ties, and demonstrating the art of tieing a necktie were new Chattanooga Police Chief Bobby Dodd, Judge David Bales, State Senator Bo Watson and Hamilton County Commissioner Dr. Warren Mackey.
