Moldy Apartment Problem Frustrating for Family

Posted: Updated:

Chattanooga (WRCB) -- Matthew Manning's stay at the Hixson Court Apartments has been an unpleasant one.

That's because a reoccurring mold problem has once again reared it's head and Manning says this time it's enough.

What's worse is the mold problem is flooding the drywall in his 8-yr-old daughter's room.

She has already been sick once and recently placed on antibiotics.

Manning's wife shot this amateur video about a month ago when they noticed the problem.

Since then the mold has shown up on every window sill. The apartment complex did send someone over to clean the problem, but Manning's mother says that wasn't enough.

Now, because of their lease agreement, the family is forced to pay for nearly $700 in rent to move out and more hundred in moving expenses.

If you have a mold problem you are urged to tell your landlords.

The neighborhood association did document the mold, and the complex manager says they plan to fix the problem once the Manning's move out.

The health department urges anyone with mold in their homes to use a quarter cup of bleach with a gallon of water to get rid of the problem area.

If it persists, you may want to see if a health inspector can evaluate.
