NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Snow has fallen in East Tennessee with an estimated 4 inches in the Smoky Mountains.
U.S. 441 was closed across the mountains Tuesday morning because of snow.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that a school bus got stuck in snow in Monroe County.
Also Tuesday, the National Weather Service upgraded its earlier winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for the Cumberland Plateau.
Persistent snowfall with temperatures hovering near freezing upped expected snow accumulation to around 3 inches in a broad upland area that includes Cookeville, Crossville, Tullahoma, Manchester and McMinnville.
Snow and snow flurries fell Tuesday morning in much of the rest of Middle Tennessee. Up to an inch of slushy snow covered grassy areas in the Chattanooga area.
