ROANE COUNTY, TN (WRCB) The sunny weekend brought out fishermen, who got an unwelcome surprise at Watts Bar Lake.
Thousands of dead fish lined the shores of the lake in Roane County.
The site is not far from the coal ash spill, and many jumped to the conclusion it was pollution, but Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency spokesperson Dan Hicks said this weekend's fish kill can be attributed to the weather.
The shad have trouble surviving in water colder than 42 degrees.
Biologists have tested fish kills in that area, and say the deaths are not due to pollution.
