CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WRCB-TV) - Pale, brooding 20-somethings are "in" and one in particular packed theatres Thursday night into Friday morning. Robert Pattinson plays vampire Edward Cullen and he and his cast mates will be the reason many folks will be late to homeroom, skip their first class or call in late for work on Friday.
New Moon is the second installment in the Twilight movie and novel series. Its run was ushered in across the country with midnight showings. You probably already know this, but I'll continue for the un-initiated. This romantic-fantasy...or "romantasy" as I like to call it, follows the development of a personal relationship between Edward the vampire and human teenager Bella.
And, in case you have not heard, it is a huge success. Twilight, the first movie, grossed more than $35-million its opening night a year ago and by September of this year had earned more than $380-million in world-wide box office receipts. Do not even ask about DVD sales.
Chattanooga theatres have prepared for the crush. Tickets have been on sale for two weeks. The Rave put the film up on all 18 screens and had sold out all of its more than 4,050 seats well before show time. That is a feat managers tell us neither Harry Potter nor Batman: The Dark Knight matched.
