Military supplier pushes for hearing delay

Associated Press - November 19, 2009 10:14 PM ET

ATLANTA (AP) - A major military food supplier charged with inflating prices and defrauding the U.S. government is asking a federal judge to delay a key hearing scheduled for Friday.

Attorneys for Kuwaiti logistics firm Public Warehousing Co. filed a motion late Thursday asking a judge to delay the first appearance hearing until Dec. 2. Federal prosecutors ask the judge to delay the hearing only a day or two.

The company, also known as Agility, is the military's prime food supplier in Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan. It is charged with making false statements, submitting false claims and committing wire fraud.

The company said it is "surprised and disappointed" by the charges.
