CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
UTC freshman, William Bradley, won't be sleeping in his dorm room anytime soon, instead he's being housed at the Hamilton County Jail.
"He was sort of deemed a threat to the campus," said Chuck Cantrell, spokesperson for the university, "and perhaps also to himself, so for the safety of our campus he was suspended and we entered into criminal charges with Hamilton County."
According to court documents, Bradley picked a fight with a MOCS basketball player on the second floor of Brock Hall on October 28th.
According to the report filed in court, Bradley bumped junior forward Ridge McKeither, then said he had a gun and knife and wasn't afraid to use them.
"There was some verbal interchange and Mr. Bradley displayed a knife," said Cantrell, "and threatened the other student."
That's when a female professor intervened.
Officers didn't find a gun on Bradley, but he was carrying a leatherman knife.
He's charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Cantrell says its not the first time Bradley has shown aggression toward a member of the MOCS basketball team.
"Apparently there have been some issues," said Cantrell, "some exchanges on campus between Mr. Bradley and basketball players."
We checked, and Bradley has no affiliation with the athletic department. School officials say they don't understand Bradley's aggression toward the team, but it falls under the school's zero tolerance policy.
"When we find someone who is acting in a threatening manner or find someone with a weapon," said Cantrell, "we have to take all precautions we can to stop that."
William Bradley has been suspended from the university. He's scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday. Until then, he will remain behind bars. Due to a prior DUI conviction, Bradley was found guilty of violating his parole. A judge denied bond.
