McMinn Central Teacher Hospitalized After Fight

Posted: Updated:

McMINN COUNTY, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Chaotic cell phone video captures the fight between two McMinn Central High School students Monday morning.

The scuffle between a 17-year-old and 18-year-old Cassie Roberts happened during first period and caught the attention of the teacher next door.

She came in to help break up the fight, as is required by the school district.

In the process of trying to break up the fight the teacher was knocked unconscious and taken to the hospital for a head injury.

Principal Roger Freeman said because she was pregnant, the school took extra precaution, but Wednesday that teacher is back in the classroom.

The school operates under a zero tolerance policy which punishes students to the full extent for misbehaving.

Both girls are being charged with disorderly conduct, but the 17-year faces additional assault charges because she initiated the fight

The principal said the 17-year-old struck the last blow to the teachers head, trying to hit Roberts.
