CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Local community clinics are reacting to Saturday's historic health reform vote in the House.
Bill Hicks says he's not getting too comfortable with the House's bill because he believes lawmakers still have a long way to go. Hicks is the executive director for the Dodson Avenue Community Clinic where uninsured and low income residents go for health care.
While the House and Senate have their own versions of the bill, one similarity is mandatory health insurance for all Americans. It's a change that would make a difference in clinics like Dodson Avenue.
A conference committee will then work to reconcile the differences and produce a final version.
There are hurdles ahead. The full Senate must pass its version, which is drastically different."I do get a sense of hopefulness among the uninsured and the poor that come in here," said Hicks. "They are saying 'I understand that the bottom line is that somehow I will be able to walk in here and get what I need.'"Comments Terms of Use: We welcome your participation in our community.
