BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB) --     Ken Lanell Richmond, who Bradley County Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Monday evening for possessing two pounds of marijuana, will have federal charges in addition to those already filed in the Bradley County court system.

A convicted felon from Alabama, Richmond appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan K. Lee in District Court at Chattanooga on Tuesday for an initial appearance on weapons and narcotics charges.

TUESDAY

BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB) - Detectives working drug interdiction on I-75 for the Bradley County Sheriff's Office seized approximately two pounds of marijuana from a vehicle they observed following too close to another vehicle Monday evening.

Police say initial contact with the suspect's vehicle for a traffic stop was in the area of the 24 and a half mile marker, but the vehicle continued off the interstate and stopped near the intersection of Georgetown Road and 25th Street.

When the detective approached the driver's door he reported a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the passenger area of the vehicle.

Police say the detective found a garbage bag containing approximately two pounds of marijuana in the back seat.

Ken Lanell Richmond, 35, of Anniston Alabama, was taken into custody and is charged with possession of marijuana for resale and following too close.

His passenger, Demetria Shafi, 30, of Saint Albans West Virginia, was charged with possession of marijuana for resale.

Both suspects were taken to the Bradley County Jail.
