CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)- Hailed as a local girl who could soon be Miss America, Soddy-Daisy's Stefanie Wittler greeted hundreds of old friends and new fans Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Place Mall.
The petite blonde with the big singing voice posed for pictures, signed autographs and accepted proclamations from city, county and state officials, including County Commissioner Fred Skillern, who praised her as "a sweet girl from Possum Creek."
She was accompanied by Army Second Lt. Kevin Beavers, her fiancee, a West Point graduate. He is soon to be stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington, before being deployed to Iraq next year. Lt. Beavers, like Stefanie, is a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School.
Stefanie, the daughter of Steve and Kim Wittler, is the 2nd Soddy-Daisy contestant to win the state title in recent years. Jamie Watkins was Miss Tennessee in 2003.
As Miss Tennessee, the UTC senior will tour the state promoting Governor Bredesen's Alliance for a Safe and Drug Free Tennessee. She also plans to continue raising funds and awareness for the Ronald McDonald House and Childrens Miracle Network.
She will compete for the Miss America crown in January in Las Vegas, to be broadcast on TLC.
