CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-  Barbara Jordan has been selected to become the new principal at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.  She will replace Steve Ball, who is moving to Nashville to become principal of East Literature Magnet School.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News has also learned that Jim Boles will be returning to CSAS as an assistant principal.  Boles had been transferred to Loftis Middle School this summer, but the move was met with widespread opposition from CSAS parents.  Cindy Dees, who applied for the principal position, will also be a returning assistant principal at the school.

Here is the statement on Barbara Jordan's appointment from HCDE spokesperson Danielle Clark:

Superintendent Dr. Jim Scales is pleased to announce the appointment of a new principal at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.   Ms. Barbara Jordan takes over leadership of the K-12 magnet school today. Ms. Jordan is currently an assistant principal at Central High School. She replaces Mr. Steve Ball who relocated to Nashville.   "Ms. Jordan has the experience, expertise and exceptional leadership qualities to successfully lead one of our top schools," Dr. Scales said. "I know she will continue the tradition of achievement, community involvement and diversity that CSAS has become known for."

Ms. Jordan began her career in education as a psychiatric teacher counselor supervisor at Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute in 1981. She became Director of Program Services for Lutheran Family Services of Tennessee in 1996 before coming to East Ridge High School in 1997 as an alternative achievement teacher. Ms. Jordan moved to Center for Creative Arts as a change coach in 2003 and was promoted to assistant principal at Central High school in 2006. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Science Education, a Masters of Education in Special Education and a certification in School Leadership from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
