CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Congressman Zach Wamp joined hundreds of Tennessee Valley residents in saluting award winning employers and students at the 2009 Better Business Bureau Awards Luncheon.
On the business side, he's still glowing about Volkswagen's upcoming Auto Plant in Chattanooga but regrets the one that just got away when GM chose a Michigan site over Spring Hill in Middle Tennessee.
"It was almost like they rigged the process to go to Michigan," said Wamp. "It's a hard pill to swallow about Spring Hill."
He also expressed concern about the American Clean Energy Act, also known as the Cap and Trade Bill. It's yet to become law, and he urged caution if it passes in its present form. He says some of the benefits may be outweighed by the costs.
"If between now and the end of the year, if this becomes law, your electric rates will skyrocket," said Wamp. "When the president used that word, he said they would necessarily skyrocket"
Wamp is currently on the road hoping to convince Tennesseans to elect him Governor next year in what he says will be a hard fought race.
"I got a really good chance. I'll be in 13 counties this week, and I'll need a lot of shirts and deodorant," said Wamp.
