Airline hopes to offer western Ky. flights

Associated Press - June 15, 2009 4:05 AM ET

OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) - A small airline is hoping to offer flights from western Kentucky to two locations starting at the end of the summer.

Pacific Wings Airlines CEO Greg Kahlstorf says the one-way flights from Owensboro to Nashville should start sometime in August or September if it wins approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Kahlstorf also hopes to have flights to Atlanta, once pilots and ticket agents are hired.

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports that Pacific Wings was chosen by the airport boards in Owensboro and Jackson, Tenn., last week to provide federally subsidized essential air service to those cities.

Owensboro has only had air service for about six weeks in the 27 months since the Federal Aviation Administration shut down RegionsAir in March 2007.
