CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- A promise of jobs, prosperity and a new Chattanooga was realized Thursday.

Crews took a symbolic step towards completing that promise, raising the first wall of the V-W plant at Enterprise South.

Plant manager Frank Fischer called it a big day, saying the company is putting down new roots in the U-S.

And Tennessee Congressman Zach Wamp says it's another sign that V-W is here for the long haul.

Among the highlights Thursday, dignitaries signing a section of a wall which was later lowered into place. Also students from Calvin Donaldson Elementary performed at the ceremony. Earlier this year, the school got a million dollar grant to convert the school to green technology.

Volkswagen will open the plant in 2011, eventually employing 2000 people.

Eyewitness News streamed the ceremony on WRCBtv.com and later had team coverage of the V-W milestone. Here is some of that coverage.
